JohnUNDERCOVER Joy Division Pocket Sweater SS2019

In 1980, Joy Division released Licht und Blindheit—a French-only 7" featuring Atmosphere and Dead Souls. The cover, designed by Jean François Jambol, captured the exact feeling of that era: isolated, restrained, permanent.

Decades later, Jun Takahashi quietly embedded that same tension into a sweater.

Released under the JohnUNDERCOVER line in SS19, the piece is clean at first glance. But two hidden seam pockets, barely visible, shift its energy. It’s not graphic-heavy or branded. The reference isn’t shouted. It’s buried—like the band’s impact—deep and deliberate.

"We’re just trying to be sincere. That’s all." — Ian Curtis
